That’s what annoyed me about minio. Started super crazy simple to set up, but I missed two updates and came back to AWS levels of mandatory configuration. Ffs I chose you because you were simple, not because I needed to replace s3

I’m actually flattered that I have this… reputation on Lemmy lol.
Personally, I don’t care if celebrities come and join, even Taylor. Honestly that’s one of the reasons I’m okay with threads starting to federate, I see celebrities joining there and then we can sub from our instances. Best of both worlds imo.
I don’t think it’s a huge deal, we’ll either know they’re legit or not. Care to weigh in @MargotRobbie@lemmy.world ?
One good thing IMO about threads federating, that we get the celebrities, we know they’re verified, but I don’t have to join corpo social media.
Thanks l, that all makes sense. I’ll keep an eye out
I have a manual process for admitting people, do I need to do anything if I know exactly who is on my instance, or do I need to do anything to protect my instance from other bad acting instances (beyond defederating, which I do when I notice a lot of spam). Any queries you recommend?
It was a fusilli Jerry
And then you are basically hiring an infra team to run the services and have the redundancy, and then with salaries you’re nearing just paying for software again
I think the vast majority of promoters online were trolls, and the vast majority of followers were morons
I did, as soon as I learned about the CSAM I moved to the cloud. I like hosting myself, but that moves a possible seizure of assets from my house to my cloud account. Still, I’m sure coming to my house isn’t out of the question.
and all I wanted was to host a community about Taylor Swift, and yet here we are.
I love the fediverse, but there are a ton of whiny entitled people here who don’t understand that regular people are hosting these things with their own money and time. I do host my own Lemmy instance, and it’s been one of the most stressful things in my life. I never thought I’d have to register with the federal government as a mandatory CSAM reporter but here I fucking am. Then they go around and say “I need free ones”. The fuck you do. If you need free porn and shit go host it yourself, you can have your house raided by the feds for hosting stuff that isn’t okay.
Let’s see if we can put the context clues together.
All of the free ones were shut down. Only the paid one survived.
Well, I can only assume, but since fediverse services are hosted by real humans and not corporations, I’m going to go out on a limb and say they couldn’t afford to stay afloat.
Another alternative is that requiring payment is a simple way to ensure that the people using your service are also 18+, since it requires a sign in form, acknowledgement, and then credit card. That helps when the feds come knocking on your door asking why you’re letting minors into your service.
You’re looking for namespaces. Have a public and private namespace
I feel like I want to show this to creationists because it would just break their brains a bit. They’d quickly go back and say god planned it, but I love the pure evolution here.
Correct. It would only be for government officials, so anyone federated with them would know that they are in fact, validated as the government official.
I think it’s perfect for governments. You can subscribe anywhere, you know it’s legit, and that’s a much better way to do notifications than twitter.
It’s not… it’s the fediverse. I’m completely fine with them having their own instance, it’s not like they control it by any means. Hell they can be defederated. It’s a lot better than them choosing some random instance.
I mean there should be a mastodon.gov.uk
Source checks out.
